The Cold and the Pebble
——by William Blake

`Love seeketh not itself to please,
Nor for itself hath any care,
But for another gives its ease,
And builds a Heaven in Hell's despair.'

So sung a little Clod of Clay,
Trodden with the cattle's feet,
But a Pebble of the brook
Warbled out these metres meet:

`Love seeketh only Self to please,
To bind another to its delight,
Joys in another's loss of ease,
And builds a Hell in Heaven's despite.'

My Pretty Rose?Tree
——by William Blake

A flower was offer'd to me,
Such a flower as May never bore;
But I said `I've a pretty Rose?tree,'
And I passèd the sweet flower o'er.

Then I went to my pretty Rose?tree,
To tend her by day and by night,
But my Rose turn'd away with jealousy,
And her thorns were my only delight.

The Lily
——by William Blake

The modest Rose puts forth a thorn,
The humble Sheep a threat'ning horn;
While the Lily white shall in love delight,
Nor a thorn, nor a threat, stain her beauty bright.

(To see a world in a grain of sand / And a heaven in a wild flower / Hold infinty in the palm of your hand / And eternity in an hour.)。
